I Can't Help But Burn

Updated: Jul 27

I’ve been in a season of meditating on the stories of missionaries, martyrs, men and women of God who gave their lives for the Lord.

I was talking to the Lord about how these people were consumed with the gospel. I believe it was the prophet Jeremiah who said “it’s like a fire shot up in my bones”. And when I read, hear of and watch these people’s stories I’m in awe of their service to the Lord.

I was listening to this song and she began to flow and sing:

“Light the fire of the flame of the fear of the Lord”

In an instant I heard the words “these people feared the Lord”. I was instantly convicted and I’m still convicted just reflecting on all of this.

To have a life laid down for the Lord. To give yourself to Him fully. Not chasing fame, legacy, notoriety, money. Nothing but Him. Counting EVERYTHING else as loss.

William Carey, William Booth, George Müller, Mary Slessor, John Newton, William Tyndale, Martin Luther just to name a few.  These men and women of God were consumed with a genuine love for the gospel that consumed every waking moment of their lives. Completely obsessed with Him and the mission He set for them to do on the earth.

Every fibre of their being was burning with the gospel. Some lost their lives for this. So we can live as Christians freely in this part of the world. Some of them gave up their whole lives, their families, careers, money. They laid it all down to pick up their cross and run the race set before them.

My prayer is that I may have the same desire and zeal to see the world changed and transformed by the gospel. And I pray that for every believer. We should be so utterly, extremely engrossed with the mission that we don’t have time for Christian politics/cycles.

This song brought alive a part of me that I’d forgotten, it called the mission focused, radical lover of Jesus back alive.

I can’t help but burn for You Lord!

The pioneer of the great move of God in Azusa Street, William J. Seymour, said “Lord, dip me in the kerosene of Your spirit and set my heart ablaze that I may burn for You!”

Oh Lord I want to burn for You and You alone. Reignite that first fire with in me.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank You for saving me. Lord, I thank You for Your fire. May the fire on my life increase. I yield myself to you wholly, fully and completely.

Lord, I realign myself and my desires back to the mission you set before me. Lord, whatever You desire to do with my life I say yes. I give myself away so You can use me in whatever way You please.

I submit to the call and pray for a greater fear of You. May my heart continually burn and beat for You alone.

Thank You Lord for choosing me to bear your name, I pray that You would equip me with all that I need for my mission field.

Thank You for Your strength, Your grace, Your power and Your love.

In Your precious name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
